NAS device (3)

Hi all networkers,
I have made some progress since my last post in moving files to
and from my Link Station Pro (500GB) and computers on and beyond
the network, but some processes are not working.
Nixiyo (my Iyonix)
------------------
With LanMan98 I can save a file to the LS (LinkStation) but not
retrieve a file, whether I use version 1.22 or version 2 (the
latest). I have tested this with directories that are password
protected and those that are not. I get errors when this is
attempted, presumably from the filer, saying things like:
"SMB error 0x20, 0x7365" and "Oversize response to raw read".
After this, Free from the iconbar menu doesn't work.
One directory which I didn't password protect can't be accessed
at all.
M$ windows XP (not my machine, I hasten to add)
-----------------------------------------------
I could both save to and copy from the LS for two of the shares.
These are two default shares that were already on the LS when
bought.
But for two others could not be accessed at all with error message
to the effect that I "may not have permission ....". One of these
shares is password protected and the other is the same unprotected
share/directory that I can't access with LanMan98 (see above).
FTP on Nixiyo
-------------
This seems to work fine on the LAN. I have opened a port (21) on
the router with the intention of being able to save and retrieve
files from outside the LAN. Two computers not on the LAN have
retrieved files from the LS, but neither has been able to copy
files to the LS. I am considering opening another port (20) on
the router which, according to the manual, is also for FTP.
So so far the score is:
Colin Granville 3, WSS 1
Will Moonfish cut the mustard?
I would still like to get LanMan98 working, especially as I have
paid for it and paid for the upgrade. (FTPc was free!)
:-((
