It only seems to generate a log if manually requested by a menu
option. (It's very easy to forget to do that).

Doesn't !KeStroke let one automate that sort of thing? (And that
app's PD these days).

I have and used Keystroke for a number of years, but I can't say I
remember any auto function like that... ie: Save the log at closed
down.

Jeremy.
There is an Autosave setup possible (Page 44 Keystroke manual) I've set it
up but it doesn't work with SockStats. (Though it does work with other
active app windows).
(It is also possible to set up an incremental file name AutoSave)

It is possible to set up a manual keypress Save using Ks, but that still
requires pressing keys, and remembering to do it in the first place.

You said that it generates the log when you select something on a menu,
so keystroke could probably do that? Once it's been created you go on
to some subsequent command to copy what was created (presumably in a
standard place?) to somewhere else. Or is it more complicated than that?

Oh yes more complicated!
If, like Oregano it auto generated a log file inside it's app dir, it
wouldn't be a problem (I have a line at the very end of the Oregano !Run
file that does a Copy of the Oregano logfile to a dir of my choice when I
quit Oregano.
But it doesn't, it doesn't generate a log file until you do Mouse Menu
over active window, Save -> Drag file or insert pathname.

I have modified the "Save" template file so that is contains an explicit
path and file name, but have yet to sort out an auto option.

Part of the problem seems to be that au-natural SockStats doesn't
generate a log file, only when called by the menu option.

If something creates a log file, ie actually a file on disk somewhere,
why don't ou just copy that somewhere else. It's not hard... unless the
log "file" you mention isn't actually a file.

If SockStats is creating a logfile somewhere, I don't know where it is,
it's not in ...!Boot.Choices.Users.Single.SockStats Nor is it in ...!Scrap
and I've done a Search in the Root for "SockStats" nuffink.

I've spoken to Chris about this problem, and he says it could be done
by modifying the BASIC source to add autosave support, but he doesn't
have a RO computer any more, and the task is outside my knowledge.

If you create a logfile, where does the app put it?

Where ever I drag it. ;-)

Thanks for your thoughts Jeremy.

Cheers
Dave S
