Re: Windows 2003 Server and LanMan98 problem

I don't know if this will help or not, but I had a similar problem
trying to connect to a WinXP Home box (same error messages). I tried
everything - plain text password registry hacks, etc. In the end, out
of desperation, I ran the Windows Network Setup Wizard, put in all the
settings I had manual set up anyway, and after that I was able to
connect! I'm not a complete network novice, and I'm fairly sure I had
all the Windows settings I know about correct, but there must have
been something that the wizard did that was blocking the connection
before. I'd be interested to hear if you find a resolution in the same
way! Good luck!

This is not quite the same with WIndows 2003. The machine I'm trying
to connect to is a domain controller so I can't go through the
networking wizard (I'm not even sure there is one with Windows 2003).
However, I do know what I'm doing with networking under Windows (it's
part of my job) and I used to work for Acorn technical support so am
familiar with both operating systems. The share I've configured on
the Windows 2003 server is accessible from all other Windows and unix
based machines on the network so this is specific to the Risc OS
client. I need to use the Windows share system as opposed to NFS
which I'm sure I could get to connect. I suspect from my research
that Windows Server will only accept encrypted passwords which I don't
believe any Risc OS clients support at this time. It's possible you
may be able to switch this off on the server but I've not found a way
to do this as yet (I can get Windows clients to send plain text
passwords but I've not found a setting to get the server to accept
plain text passwords). Of course, I could be wrong and there may be
something else I've missed. Any further suggestions would be
gratefully received.
