I don't know if it's still the same, with all the changes they have
gone through, but as of a few years ago, the SMTP server avalable to BT
Openworld business ADSL accounts very definitely did only allow From
addresses that were hosted by BT. All mail was rejected if it was from
a domain that they didn't host. We had to set up a local SMTP server
for that particular user, to bypass BT's. (For the most part, we set
people up on Demon, which DID allow such usage.)
MY local mail server for my main mail accounts rejects mail that has an
invalid HELO/EHLO - it's fairly common practice, and only aware of one
one ligitimate instance of mail to me being lost because of it. (I do
check the logs occasionally..) I'd certainly recommend that the OP
sorts this out first.
