Why Can't I ping My RPC?

I have a small, wired, home network with 2 computers, an RPC & a Win2000 PC.

I am just trying to add a third device and have been pinging lots.

In the process I discovered that my Win2000 PC can ping the router, itself, the new device but not the RPC.

The RPC can ping anything quite happily.

The RPC & Win2000 PC happily share files with Samba & LanMan98 so there's connection.

So why is it of all the networked devices I have, it's only the RPC that won't respond?

The IP address is neatly in the middle of the router and the Win2000 PC. The firewall on the PC is temporarily disabled.

I'm puzzled. Can any body help?
