A standard, Category 5 compliant, patch cable is all that should be
necessary. Crossover cables are normally only used for connecting two
computers, and need to be wired differently as you say. The router as a
device is designed to be plugged into by computers. As such it should
not need a crossover cable. If it's in any way half decent, it
shouldn't actually care whether you plug in a normal or a crossover...
