Here's how;
1. Attach the monitor to the RiscPC onboard video
2. Wait for the on screen message "Please use ViewFinder Video Output"
3. Attach the monitor to the ViewFinder
For some reason, this lets me see the RiscPC booting when using the
ViewFinder.
That will allow you to see the very early part of the boot sequence which includes the RISC OS banner, memory size and podule initialisation, some of which happens before the ViewFinder podule is initialised. It is really only important to see if a podule is crashing and preventing things going further.
The useful part of the boot sequence to see is all the pre-desk commands flying past (incase there is an error), will happen on the ViewFinder screen, after that message is displayed. Apart from that you don't want to keep swapping cables, it's bad for the lifespan of your equipment both physically and electrically.
ViewFinder will still honour the RISC OS start up mode, although it has a slightly different set of video parameters which may confuse some monitors. From the F12 prompt or Ctrl+F12 taskwindow, try:-
*Configure MonitorType 4
*Configure Mode 28 Also try 31
*Configure Sync 0 Also try 1
