RE : RISCOScode site.
OK, now that I can see what is causing the complaints I've redone the
site with a wider page and smaller font but in the same style, in the
hope that I've got a site that works for both mobile phone users and
desktop users with wide screens.
I thought I'd leave the user a choice: By default, you'll get the
"desktop" design - every page has a bar at the top that can be clicked
to drop into the "mobile phone" design. (I haven't tried this out on a
mobile yet)
Most people only find one wrong-end to a stick :-(
Don't make separate pages for every different browser/class, make one site
and use stylesheets to deal with the issues - then you'll have a site that
adapts its rendering as a whole and to which new, simple, pages can be added
easily. If you decide to restyle the whole site then one css file only need
be changed.
Simple things to do now:
* View the site with images turned off.
* View the site with a text-only browser.
Simple changes to try now:
* Remove the width attribute from your main table.
* Move the top bar outside the table. ie. start the table after the graphic.
* Either get rid of the lowbars or end the table before they occur.
- This will at least reflow to a wide range of widths.
Basic changes which will greatly improve the useability:
* Use conventional navigation.
* Use headers only for headers and put content into paragraphs.
* Move all font and alignment declarations into style sheets.
* Get rid of <br> line breaks.
* Get rid of lines containing nothing but non-breaking spaces.
