I believe Shift+Return is for the purpose of emulating an Adjust click
on the default button (and Shift+Escape an adjust click of the Cancel
button). See 6.10 or later !Alarm (Set alarm window) for an example.
it's the first that i (for one) have ever heard of it.
Toolbox is doing it also.
in general, i've always thought it a waste when Select and Adjust
behave identically.
It is a waste and more recent versions of the OS have moved away from that
behaviour gradually. It is my belief that Acorn never quite got around to
implementing their own standards everywhere.
StyleGuide quote for mouse:
Adjust should not be needed by new users, but be used for shortcuts and
alternatives to other procedures.
StyleGuide quote for keyboard stuff (I've avoided use of symbols):
The shift key is the natural modifer for any function key, so use this to
provide similar functionality to the unshifted key, but with some subtle
modification. Use the Ctrl key to provide different functionality. So for a
function key Fn:
Fn some function
Shift+Fn a modified form of Fn
Ctrl+Fn some other function (probably unrelated to Fn)
Ctrl+Shift+Fn a modified form of Ctrl+Fn
It then goes on to say Alt should not be used (actually *must* not use).

Adjust on the task manager should do something more useful than
repeat what Select does
It does!
-- perhaps open the Configure dialogue,
Strange you should say that! ;-)

Jim, I thought I'd read somewhere that you'd got RISC OS 6. Your comments
above don't appear to reflect that.
Cheers
Steve.
