Really? I find Artworks does everything that Draw can do and much, much
more. And it communicates nicely with Xara Extreme on the dark side. In
fact I do all my design work in Artworks, but haven't used Draw for
many years now. Draw is a good, basic vector graphics program, and good
for a freebie, but it wont do many of the things that I want a vector
program to do.
Well, to be honest, it's Draw+ I use rather than draw and my principal
use is for drawing up circuit diagrams and laying out PCB artwork.
Libraries are much used for both and layers, for the different sides of
the PCB and component layout, important for the latter. [1]
Does Artworks do that? Perhaps I should say "will it do it better?"
Not having any experience of Draw+, nor any experience of designing PCBs (a
hole in my education which I much regret) I can't answer that. Artworks
certainly makes extensive use of layers, allows objects to be grouped and
named and makes it easy to pick up and duplicate an object as many times as
you want. As far as I know, there is no specific 'library' function in AW,
but it would be easy to create and save sheets of components.
Draw+ of course was "free" (I did make a donation as requested) so I have
no problem using it on "all" my machines whereas, no doubt, the Artworks
licence would restrict it to one machine only.
Indeed, one machine only. (But the point of this whole argument is that I
only need to use it on one machine because I only need to have one machine
to cover all my computing needs.)
[snip details of confusion of discs, dongles and manuals in your possession]
I think AW has moved on lots since the version you have. All I have is a CD
and a set of release notes!
It does, of course, depend what you want to do. It sounds as if you are
well-served by what you already have!
