..I believe the IP service started later that Autumn of 1995,
with Brian? taking the honour as the first normal Argonaut -
(ie not Jason, Richard nor Andrew), his application being the
one lifted from the postal -pile propping up Molly's wobbly
table leg. This I think was before shares were offered, which
was a while later, into 1996.

Yes, I happened to be the first Argonet external member
(argba13) but that was entirely by chance as many others
responded to that first invitation to join published in one of
the Acorn magazines in Sep 95.

I had the first Voyager software (on floppy) on 1 Oct 95 and the
modem was delivered on 9 Oct 95. By 25 Oct 95 Andrew Foyle was
writing to his customers "... So many subscriptions have been
coming in that we have had our hands full keeping up with them
al. Hundreds of you have now jumped on the Information
Superhighway with us, and more are joining all the time. ..." so
the launch was a success.

However, there were a great many problems getting everything
working properly and Voyager versions followed on frequently
until well into 1996. One innovation, which I greatly disliked
because it was far from foolproof but managed to disable, was
automatic update. Nevertheless, I readily acknowledge the
enterprise of those involved in creating Argonet, because until
then there was no painless way for the non-geek Acorn RISC OS
user to get connected to the internet. That's why there was the
rush.

So, paying 2000.00gbp for the first trench of shares would, so
far as I'm concerned, have released that same 14.95gbp per
month back to me as an immediate benefit.

The first of the ordinary shares were issued to punters at 50p
in Oct 96 and if one bought GBP1000-worth (not GBP2000) the
subscription was reduced, to zero I think. The later tranche of
shares were issued as an "Enterprise Investment Scheme" (?) in
Apr 97 at 60p but with the ability to claw back standard rate
income tax and with freedom from capital gains tax.

Not sure if that covers it ..it's an interesting history ..but
nevertheless, e&oe, or whatever.. ;))

I have a fat folder containing all the papers. I can look up
other details if they are essential to this discussion :-)
