Logged on this morning with messenger / netfetch. 21250 emails from
January 2005??? Now my machine stiffs up and continues to do so every
time I try to use Messenger. If I dont run Messenger, everything else
on machine works ok. Am obviously mailing this from the old PC. What
now to get back to normal? :-(

Sure they are emails and not news group items as Plusnet have changed
over there news server company as per this post from Evan Clark on
acorn.apps.
Try disabling newshound fetching in NetFetch-Choices-Settings and see
what happens. i.e untick option for "Transfer News when Netfetch
loads"

I hope this may help to avoid some possible grief tomorrow morning:
PlusNet have confirmed that the outsourcing of their Usenet provision
to SuperNews will take place during tomorrow.
news.plus.net and it's aliases such as usenet.force9.net etc. will be
pointed to the Supernews servers sometime between 8.00 - 10.00am
tommorow (Friday), and the changes will propagate through the DNS
system there after.
Because the corresponding article numbers on the Supernews servers are
much higher (many tens of thousands in some instances) than those on
the PlusNet servers, and because of the way NewsHound works, users may
find they are downloading huge numbers of articles when they make the
first download after the change.
To avoid this, the numbers for the last article received for each
group in the NewsHound Group file need to be changed suitably. For
example, set the number to -50 to download just the most recent 49
articles for the group.
There may be other ways of achieving the desired result via Messenger
Proetc.. Hopefully others will point out if there are better ways to
tackle this.
Evan."
