I think Simon was refering to the astonishing amount of time
taken to delete the files. A quick test with my Win2K box
resulted in the deletion of 81 files (~450MB total) from a USB2
memory stick in under a second. Obviously I don't know how my
memory stick compares with Paul's, but the implication is that
both RISC OS USB systems are rather slower than they ought to be
at deleting things. (Transferring 30 files of ~3MB each from the
Win-PC to the same stick took 141s; that's much faster than any
speed the A9 achieved in Paul's tests, but *slower* than the
Iyonix was for big files.)
There is a problem comparing Windows with RISC OS here. Don't forget that
the memory sticks were DOS format, so I suspect that a lot of the speed
difference could well be related to the need to deal with a 'foreign' disc
format. This might also explain the extremely slow speed deleting files. So
far no-one has said what the filenames used were. Perhaps the operation
might be quicker with 'simple' 8.3 DOS names.
