Having never had to resort to a PCMCIA card for wireless
networking, I'm a little surprised that using one means the wired
interface needs disabling. Can you not use the card with the older
interface still enabled?

No, it doesn't need disabling, but as I never us the wired interface, I wanted
to remove the network not available icon from the system tray (just for
neatness).
