Everyone should always have a floppy with this program on ready. It is
easily worth several times the small price it costs.
to have a fair chance of recovering all your data - if your data is
not even worth that, it cannot have been that important after all.
Martin
I bought Hard Disc Companion 2 and LookSystems Disc Rescue. I have FSCK too.
I bought EEsox SCSI2-cd-romdriver, !CDBurn from WSS. I previously invested
in a Powertec SCSI-2 card with complimented ZIP-drives which never properly
worked. I bought a second SCSI-2 interface (Castle Storm SCSI2) from missery
with the Powertec which I still have inside the RPC (and which admitidly
worked/works great). During the RPC's lifespan it's Zip-drives, SCSI CDRW
and SCSI Scanner broke down (bye bye goes investment of Epson GT-Twain
drivers from David pilling). So the expensive SCSI-cards are sitting there
collecting dust.
I had the RPC's original 210MB HDD which contained a yearly backup (or
half-yearly) but not as regularly because I had to fimple with the
configuration and RISC OS started finding read errors on that drive recently
(proably due to it's age and not being used as much).
Was I yet to buy another software? When it was too late now?
There is a cost issue here. I can keep pouring money into this old machine
but at one time this stops. It stopped when many programs that I paid good
money for weren't going to get further developped. It was clear that at that
point any more investment in my RISCOS machine was a dead end. Interest in
my RPC faded. Soon I only used Prophet Accounting software alone and not the
stuff where I bought the RPC intentionally for namely DTP-stuff. And
therefore I never knew about the program that you pointed out to me and
hence never bought it.
Tell you what. From now on I'll use a simple spread*** as my
accounting-program. I'll try to stick with file formats that I can transfer
to ANY OS or program (like .XLS-spreadsheets) without weird and exotic file
structures. I'll use computers with easy to use and AFFORDABLE
backup-solutions. With friendly ppl around to help me when things go wrong
(much more friendly ppl in the local PC shop's these days, then in here).
You see I DON'T NEED patronising when I all I ask is some advice as to where
I can find a proper !Boot-structure (obviously not on RISCOS Ltd's website)
or if I ask if there is a way to recover data from a lost partition table.
Perhaps if you pour some money into ROS Ltd. bank-account you can go to
another download area where you can find this CD-image; I dunno...
I have enough problems already without you guys patronising me!
AT least I thank YOU (and you alone) because you responded the quickest and
for being the LEAST patronising of the pack of hyenas that is these
newsgroups.
Have a good life,
Manu T
Cheers
You are ok to do this
but your an idiot
I have (as previously stated) suffered your trouble
and MOSTLY on the PC
I USE and USED my RiscPC FOR and AT work, where I was an IT ADMINISTRATOR, data passed to and from my RiscPC without hassle!
I read XLS and sent them to people!
ROL will have provided you with a Boot CD, and are VERY happy to re-send it to you! (I enquired for myself when I thoguht I lost it)
but the problem is you...you did not backup sine 8 years ago!!!
I have had nothing but help from here!
From them, I now have a music player in my car!
which plays multi-formats, and can accept playlists / files from a PC drive editied using my software.
slating people working to develop, improve, and help will cause you to not be helped.
as they say "Take a chill pill!"
I must apologise but someone annoyed me today!
