While photodesk was running (and probably bussy on something) I switched

That does not sound right. When PhotoDesk is busy, then you cannot do
anything but wait. If you could change screen resolution, then
PhotoDesk was not busy and may not even be involved.

I noticed the HD led lit when I changed resolution. But THAT shouldn't be a
problem!

Next thing ADFS gives me a failure telling me that my harddisk isn't
formatted!!!

I inserted A Disc Rescue Floppy
from looksystems (which is fortunatly readable) but !fixmap, !DiscED
and
!Repairdir can't do anything.

Doing this may have been an exceedingly BAD IDEA. I hope these tools
have not attempted to write anything to the disc, otherwise you might
just have destroyed it beyond repair. Do these tools even know about
the new RISC OS 4 hard disc format?

I've already tried these programs. So yes, I presume the partition table is
already beyond repair. Then I tried the HDForm from my older Backup. That
gave a "broken directory"error. Then I downloaded the " RISC OS 4 Default
Boot sequence CD ISO image" Tried the HDForm from that CD (the cd-drive is
still functionable thank god), that went OK. Then coppied the whole CD to
the HD to be able to boot (at last). But that gave an error "No support for
RISCOS 4.30"...GRRRRRRRR!!!!! Damn you Paul Middleton... supply the proper
things on your bloody RISCOS website!!!

I thought RISCOS uses a "universal boot"?

If there is anything that can help you, it is DiscKnight.

Everyone should always have a floppy with this program on ready. It is
easily worth several times the small price it costs.

Too late. I'm through spending ANY more money on this machine. I't going
with the garbage!

It might also be worth checking the hard disc connector.

Nothing wrong with the connector to the drive and the CDrom drive. Both are
IDE and both function fine. It's the bloody partition table that's gone!
Fecking ADFS! I thought Risc PC could withstand nuclear wars... it can't
even withstand a bloody bitmap editing program doing some fake virtual
memory thingy and a resolution switch!

I'm gonna get this stupid machine booting and them anyone who wants it can
collect it for a modest fee. I've had it with RISCOS!
I finally use this crap again for graphic work (which is why I bought it in
the first place) and now it ruins over 7 years of accounting and DTP work!!!

I'm too old for this ***!

IF I keep using Prophet (VERY doubtfull now) then I'm gonna run it under
emulation. At least with a PC or Mac you can have EASY backups on DVD. On
RISCOS it's always a drag to do anything. No support for anything execpt
jpegs, it's goddamn slow (all I see is that blue hourglass and you can only
guess what the stupid machine is actually doing) and even the tinniest thing
costs money.

I've spend more money on this ancient beast then on any other computer I
have at home and now it's completely useless.

Martin

Wanna have it? It's a real bargain. And if it's gonna keep ruining me day
then I'm gonna smash it to pieces and throw it in the garbage (YES, I hate
it this much now!)

Anyway Thanks for your advice.

You'll soon see ebay sales for originall RISC OS software (including
Artworks, Impression publisher, Publisher Dutch upgrade, Photodesk, Ant
suite etc...

Cheers
