I think you've misunderstood. You can supply an url of an image
and it will display as a picture on the ebay listing.
The OP was referring to gallery images. There's no way to get your
picture to appear in the gallery of search results without uploading
the image to Ebay. The viewpoint was also put forward that if your
auction has caught the eye of a potential buyer without a gallery
photo then you don't need one in the listing.
Personally I strongly disagree with that idea. Buyers like to see
a picture of what they're going to buy even if it is something really
mundane. In my experience a decent picture will increase the bidding
substantially. If it's a high value item (anything over 50 quid)
it may be worthwhile to take several photos from different angles,
plus for a RiscPC: a shot of the inside.
After I clumsily broke my digital camera I simply didn't put
anything up on Ebay until I had it working again.
- which gives you much greater control over the way the image is
presented. eBay has a default size in the listings, and that can
give rise to poor quality or aspect ratio distortion if your
offered image isn't just right and it gets manipulated.
Not in my experience. The aspect ratio remains the same and they
must use a pretty decent antialiasing filter as I've given it all
kinds of sizes of image and they never come up with interference
patterns or anything.
Putting images up outside eBay seems an all-round easier option,
even for a PC user
You've got to be kidding. Uploading to your webspace and typing
HTML into your auction listing easier than just uploading it to Ebay?
The first is free anyway, so no gain unless you want multiple
pictures.
