Starting to do a Skype port to RISC OS? :-)
No, I've just got a SIP-based phone. Direct ethernet connection to my router so doesnt require a PC. Configured by web browser.
I use Skype a lot (on the PC of course) and have it connected to my telephone via a USB switch box. I got this for about 25 quid on Ebay and it goes between the telephone and the line. The USB connection goes to the computer.
Thats the problem with Sykpe - you need a PC or Mac, and if you are doing something that eats up your CPU then your call quality suffers.
I went down the dedicated hardware route because:
a) I havnt found a "skype phone" I liked - they all look rather cheap and plasticy - even though they arent actually that cheap!
b) Didnt want to be reliant on my PC, or having to leave it on to be able to receive calls
c) I wanted the option of having several VoiP providers and multiple incoming lines.
All is going well so far, although I've hit a bug with my current routers firmware which means the phone loses its connection to its gateway every few days.
Cheers,
