Re: DIY BeagleBoard or ARMini

Hi Dave

[snip]

Don't leave it there, Peter.

What have you got on the ARMini that makes it a workhorse. What sort of
workhorse? What software are you using to get to talk to the VRPC? What
software do you have on the VRPC? Any hardware built into your setup,
that might make it unique, would be interesting to know about? Please.

I'm sure that there are many who have arrived at a similar place to
yourself and would benefit from hearing more about your experiences.

That prompts some interesting thoughts for me Brian, and I suppose it
could be the same for others.

This SARPC is a few months away from being 17 years old, I run most of
my business from it. To keep things secure in case of it dying, I have
a mirror of this machine on a Window computer on a VRPC-AdjustSA
install, itself also running Select 6.20.

The business stuff is updated/synced from RPC to VRPC whenever business
stuff is done, and the two are generally synced with the rest of the
changing stuff weekly.

If this SARPC died tomorrow, as much as I'd like another Hardware RO
machine, could I justify the 600 quid spend when I already have an
adequate working emulation version?

I guess in normal times it would be easy, as this RO machine is used
for both business and much pleasure, so I'd immediately purchase an
ARMMini, but we are in difficult economic times which puts an entirely
different perspective to the question.

'Precisement', as Poirot would say.

You have described almost exactly the same place that I am currently in,
only my place is getting to be more fragile lately. Thus my open question
to Peter.

Regards

Brian
