What ROM version is flashed?
I replaced the HD a while ago so I tried starting up with the old HD
wich was in normal working state when I stored it. Machine seemed to
startup OK (and I can move the mouse ponter) but after booting up the
standard desktop (the monitor definition is read and used, but no
progs I put in startup are run) the HD stops spinning and
mouse&keyboard do not respond anymore.
What can be the cause of this and how can I get a working machine again?
Try '*Unplug' and reinitialise any unplugged modules (ROM order differs
in 5.16 from some earlier versions so you may find a critical module is
unplugged when 5.16 starts).
Can't unplug anything because keyboard doesn't respond. same with the old HD in the machine
I have removed all unnessary cables, hubs and network Starting up with
no HD at all works (but is not verry useful..) I have put both HD's as
second drive in a RiscPC. (OS 4.16) the original can be read, the
newer bigger (160GB)(with the softload) one gives a "not formatted"
error I tried to hold Del, R, A, Q, and more during startup (maybe I'm
forgetting one)
If the keyboard isn't working the keys won't help. Personally I would
flash 5.16 if you can, not least because of the date error in earlier
ROMS.
Keyboard is working until boot is running. So holding a key during startup could change something.
I was thinking something in CMOS has changed. Can it be reset?
