I've recently bought RO4.39 but the RPC hasn't been used for
5+ years. RO4.39 hasn't been installed yet.

Is there any other advice available, please? The computer
worked fine before I stored it away and I know it's probably
just something simple needed to recover its previous state
before installing the new OS.

Welcome back, Trevor! I am sure with the wealth of friendly
experience available here you will be able to recover your
machine.

However, first things first. As your machine has been unused for
5 years the cell that powers the CMOS and clock chips will not
only be discharged, as you found, but may well have leaked and
damaged tracks on the motherboard. If so, it could be repairable
and certainly a new cell could be fitted. This is urgent.

So before we all rush in with detailed advice could you
dismantle the machine so you can see the east[1] edge of
the motherboard and report on the cell. In case you are
unfamiliar with it, look for a disc about the size of a £2-piece
standing on edge with 3 stout wires soldered into the board.

Sorry if there is overemphasis on teaching grandmothers ... etc

Brian.

[1] Looking from the front, directions are as on a conventional
map sheet. These are also screen printed on the motherboard at
the back.
