Hello all!

I have installed a Canon BJC-7100 printer on my Iyonix PC.
When I do a printout from TechWriter/EasyWriter the margin on
the paper is wrong. It is about 5mm whereas according to page setup
in TechWriter it should be 25.4mm (1"). The top margin is correct.

I have checked various obvious things like paper size from the
printers menu (on icon bar).

Relevant or irrelevant information
----------------------------------
The default graphics margin is Left 3.4mm (Top 3.0mm).
Text margins: Top 2 lines and Left 0 characters.
The print driver, BJC-7000, seems to emanate from Castle as the zip
file inlcudes a note, ReadMeA7k, from John Ballance.

I've tried editing paper margins for various printers over the last few
years most of the time I found I could increase the offset (i.e. move the
printing further away from where I wanted it) but never decrease the offset.

IIRC entering negative offsets came into it.
I reported this a number of times in the newsgroups but no one ever
responded, not even to say it works for me or I have the same problem.

The only conclusion I came up with was that it was margin settings in the
printer i.e. you would need printer specific control codes to change them.

I even tried adding that to some Canon printer initialisation commands with
no joy.[1]

[1] Some Canon A3 printers defaulted to A4 printing limits and I did by
using a 50 parameter contol code sequence manage to change it for A3
printing, but using the same technique didn't help the A4 contemporary
models margins!

I've got two A4 printers, a Canon iP4000 (IP4000 RO driver) and a HP
Laserjet 1100 (LasJet II RO driver): printing out an A4 Artworks doc
with a black block positioned exactly 25mm from the top and LH paper
edges, and using the same paper size for both printers, gives the
following result when the printed *** is measured:

Canon: Top margin 28mm (error 3mm), LH margin 28mm;
Laserjet: Top margin 37mm (error 12mm), LH margin 31.5mm (error
6.5mm).

The Canon is on my network, so I exported the Artworks test file as a
pdf and printed it out on my XP laptop:

Top margin 25mm (error 0mm), LH margin 25mm (error 0mm).

Regrettably, where absolutely accurate print positioning is required,
the solution would appear to be to export the RO doc in a
PC-compatible format and print it out on a PC. Gutenprint might
provide a better solution for RO; maybe a user could commment?
