I've been trying to use the output from a DVD+Video player into the
PCITV card (Pinnacle TV card - SAA7134 version) using Robin Hounsome's
Remote software (v0.11) on an Iyonix. The output from the DVD side is
fine, but that from the video player is very poor, ie the picture is
broken up or non-existant, although the sound is ok.
If the player output is set to 'DVD' then Remote's 'Channel Search'
option will find the relevant channel (21 in this case): whereas, when
the player output is set to 'video', 'Channel Search' is unable to
find any channel (presumably the signal is too weak?).
TV output has never been satisfactory but I'd put that down to an
ineffective indoor aerial.
Should the card/software be able to handle video output or am I hoping
for too much?
A few thoughts:
1. Why are you using RF? Composite or S-Video would give a much better
picture (and stereo sound via the Iyo line in)
2. There may be an issue with timing. Broadcast and DVD provide stable
timing reference signals, tape does not (this is usually noticable as a
horizontal flutter at the top of the picture). I don't ever remember
testing Remote with a VCR input but it may be possible to modify the
software to overcome a timing issue, if this is the cause of the problem.
3. Is the channel used by the modulator adjusted via software of via a
little screw? Remote only looks for proper channels e.g. Ch21 - 471.25MHz,
Ch22 - 479.25MHz etc. not for something in between, for instance, -
475.25MHz
