I'm on the cusp of buying an HD TV (probably a Toshiba 37 X 3030-
something), and I was wondering if anyone has experience of (or an
MDF for) connecting an RPC or newer device to it?
Be careful, I was looking round a shop and many of the "HD" TVs had a
lower resolution panel than 1920 x 1080, avoid these.
Thanks, I'd noticed.
Ah! but is 1080i better than 720p?
The 1080i is interlaced so is 540 twice!
Also it depends what the images were recorded at and then which they are
broadcast at.
It is a real minefield.
Say would a film mastered at 1080i, then brodcast at 720p look better or
worse on 1080 or 720p
Or a film mastered at 720p and broadcast at 1080i look better on which screen.
I know that DSPs can do amazing things but keeping the same resolution from
source through nradcast to display must surely give a better picture than
one that has been scaled somewhere along the line.
The other thing that I'm told varies form one HD LCD to another (even of the
same resolution) is how well they display non HD images.
As it will be many years before HD reaches 50% of program output this is if
anything more important than the choice of 720p or 1080i!

Has some useful information including:
* Progressive scanning (720p) produces a smoother, more film-like look, but a
* 1080i image actually contains greater detail. Though it has fewer lines,
* the native progressive scan format (720p) eliminates motion artifacts that
* originate in interlacing.
