Thanks again, Greg, it seems be just what I want. I'd
only looked on www.philips.co.uk and couldn't find what I
needed. Your link goes to their dedicated support site
which is a .com and which my internet search failed to
identify. On the other hand, maybe I'm just incompetent.

Anyhow, the driver is in a zip called 180b2p74_dxp_eng
but my monitor is a 180P2 not a 180B2. A little further
searching on the site has turned up another zip called
180p2b_00c_dxp_eng so I shall try that first (not
forgetting to set a system restore point).

Seems like I'm fated to lose this monitor. The 180P2 driver
was no help and it refused to load the 100B2 driver. Peter
has sent me the driver for his 200w but after trying the
180B2, I'm not going to mess about.

I have ordered a 20" LG widescreen TV/Monitor from PC World
(spit). It's a 1680x1050 display and, though that's not a
standard resolution in XP, the nVidia Control Panel
software allows you to create custom resolutions. I'm
hoping the DVI connection will simplify getting it set up.
