Does anyone here know something about Kyocera laser
printers?

I have a 3-year-old FS1200 which gives excellent print
quality but which has developed an annoying fault.
After power-on the first half dozen pages are fine, but
it then starts printing 2 or 3 cm too far down the
paper so that the bottom of the page is chopped off.

Just had another thought. Feeding problems on my 1700
were also improved immeasurably by changing paper
quality. I now standarise on Xerox Business paper. (A
tip I learnt from a someone who ran a large
photo-copying department at a school, who also emphasised
keeping the paper wrapped up when not in use).

Point taken! I have noticed the problem varying with
different types of paper.

A while ago I threw away a Kyocera which had had the same problem from
new. The interesting thing is that the print comes too far DOWN the
page, meaning that the paper has fed too far when printing starts. The
more usual feed problems are caused by the paper not feeding far
enough, and show up as print too close to the top of the page. As it
even did it when printing status pages from the front panel, it wasn't
a driver problem, in spite of the vendor's repeated suggestions.

I suspected that it was either due to failure to sense the paper, or
more likely, a registration roller not stopping in the correct place.

The final straw was after one of many calls to the supplier being told
"at 25000 pages its more than halfway through its life". The "drum
lasts the life of the printer" phrase means "the printer only lasts as
long as the drum". Once I discovered I could get HP compatible toners
for less than the cost of refilling the Kyocera with toner I bought a
refurbished HP5M from he who has everything (complete with network
card) for less than the cost of a Kyocera network card.

I've just bought an HP colour laser multifunction which I hope will be
as well built as the other HP printers, and was om offer at a serious
discount. I'll let you know how I get on.
