I've been asked by an acquaintance about a problem with an A5000 in her
school. Apparently someone has fiddled with some settings and the
monitor is now only displaying in black and white, apart from the mouse
pointer which is showing as blue. Has the screen mode been changed or
have the settings been changed on the monitor itself?
Then look for the line Wimpmode and note the number next to it.
If it is one of the numbers down below, add 2 for 16 colours or 3 for 256.
Then type *Configure WimpMode followed by the number you come up with.
Press Return twice and you're back in "glorious technicolor".
The most likely to use numbers are 27 for 16 cols and 28 for 256 cols.
Alternatively tell the found number here and no doubt you'll get numerous
reponse on which one to use instead.
Alternative 2: Click Apps, then Configure, then Screen.
Select the "auto" radio buttons. Close configure.
Press F12 then Return
It can't be the monitor, because the blue cursor is created by the same
signals as the rest of the display.
However I've just changed the RPC here to a black and white mode, and I
still get a blue cursor, so that seems likely.
The palette utility in RO3.10 lets you change even the pointer colours.[*]
Black and white modes are 2 (640x256), 4 (text only) 6 (text only),
You mean mode 0 (mode 2 = 16 cols), mode 4 is graphic 320x256, anyway
the old BBC modes are pretty useless on the desktop so forget anything
up to 7.
18 (640x256), 23 (mono monitor only, used by A4), 25 (640x480),^^
Not on this 'ere A4 it don't. It happily shows mode 27 in greyscale though.
29 (800x600),
33 (768x288), 37 (892x352), 41 (640x352) and 44 (640x200).
I don't think an A5000 will produce modes above 31, but I might be wrong,
and mine isn't here to test it.
Up to mode 46 without the gamemodes module or CC's extensions.
It cannot show 32 alas :(
[*] using this you can also rewrite the palette to mimic a mono screen
so the Wimpmode may not be the problem, but some nifty programming
can or even a desktop bootfile with tweaked values.
