Re: Any recommendations for a USB KVM?

Hi,

I have a USB KVM that I bought along with my Iyonix from the man of
perpetual stock. It has performed mainly quite well, but I am getting
more and more lost mouse clicks (all three buttons). I use it to switch
between the Iyonix, 2 PCs (XP & Win2003 SBS), and a Mac G3 (or anything
else that I need to work on, such as a PC being repaired for a customer).

It misses over 50% of clicks at times, although it is less likely to if I
hold the button down for a second or so, but that's not a natural action,
so I usually forget. The problems occur on any one of the machines,
making it likely to be the mouse or KVM, so I've plugged the mouse
directly into the machines and it responds accurately every time.

So the question is, what do I replace the KVM with? I need 4 ports, and
the ability to act as a switched USB hub, switching at least 2 input ports
(mouse & keyboard), but more would be better - this one does 4 USB devices
(USB2 would also be nice). I think mine is port powered, and is labelled
as an AcroGear KAG14 with a Rextron logo on the front as well.

I use an Edimax one, probably a EK-4USK, it takes a PS/2 mouse and keyboard (and video and 4 USB devices), and outputs them as 4x USB (and video), it is USB powered (appears to be from any port), and works fine with the Unipod.

Only problems I've had are as follows.
On none of the computers connected to it, does the \ | key work (more annoying in a terminal session or on Risc OS, than it is in windows), with a PS/2 keybaord conected, I haven't tried a USB keyboard with it. For some reason, during trying to pay Dune 2 on the RPC, the keyboard and mouse stop working (probably software at fault, since it doesn't happen any other time).

I'm not suggesting you buy this kit (though other than the above it has been quite robust). Just noting that if you come across it, you should be aware of the above.

Also worth mentioning that I have no experience with sharing USB devices with it.
