In the days of RO3.6 & .7 I used to have this added to B.C.B.Predesk
just below the ResApss section:
| Softload CDFS

RMKill cdfssoftata.
RMKill cdfssofthit.
RMKill cdfssoftchi.
RMKill cdfssoftphi.
RMKill cdfssoftson.
RMKill cdfssofttos.

RMLoad ADFS::4.$.!Boot.Resources.!System.Modules.CDX

| Einde Softload CDFS

It kills every instance of whatever CDFS and loads the special SCSI2 CDFS.
You may have to substitute your Sony module in this line although the CDX
should cater for all SCSI CDROMdrives be it SCSI 1 or 2.
Considering your remark about waiting a long time I'd say you have one of
the other CDFS modules still active.
*CDFS:CDDevices (as Andrew suggested, not *Devices which only shows what's
connected to the SCSI card)) may show this delay too when it is trying
to locate a non-existing drive.
But then again I'm not even sure RO3.5 contains CD-modules...
