web forums are actually superior anyway.

It's only me who's always going lost there?

I suspect eventually usenet will return to a niche forum used by the
clued few who are not intimidated by its text-based interface, arcane
rules of etiquette and so forth.

The text based interface is the reason why I'm using it. Usenet is fast
and has its clear structures. We can hardly use broadband here in the
wilderness because of bad lines. Broadband is available and working
here... but in the reality it is often not.

As these are the people who are actually capable of producing a
coherent sentence complete with, you know, like, punctuation and
stuff, (and who can sometimes even spot irony when it's used) I think
that's a good thing.

Indeed. I would have been thankful if this had been the case by more of
our professors.

How long before common OSes stop offering newreading facilities as
standard? If that were to happen, you'd have to obtain and install
your own newsreader before you could even get on to usenet in the
first place. That would be quite a high barrier to entry.

The first time I had to do all the horse' apples (what we say for horse
droppings or crap, something we think it is nonsense because it could
work in a much simpler way) with the internet almost everything was
difficult and a lot hardly to understand. Yep, that time I marched
online first, it was in 2002, I used ArcWeb and such freeware stuff.
Especially Usenet and e-mail was an issue but I learnt a lot by tinkerin
and I'm thankful to have it now because it helps me to get connected to
the RISC OS world.
