I just tried again. I get about 8 seconds of solid disc activity, a
short gap and then a few more flickers. After that calm breaks out
again and there is no sign of anything having happened.
Did you wait long enough? It takes 2 minutes for the icon to appear on
my RiscPC. I've just timed it; on a 233 StrongARM running RISC OS 4.39.
It started like the above, then at 45 secs a message appeared saying (in
effect - not the exact wording) 'The last session was interrupted, Resume
last session or start new?' So I clicked on New.
At 2 min the icon appeared on the icon bar.
At 2 min 30 sec a blank screen appeared with just the title bar.
At 2 min 45 sec The button bar appeared, then at intervals various items
were added to it.
During this period there were quite long pauses with no disc activity.
Finally at 4 min 50 secs the 'Welcome to Firefox' screen appeared, and
it was ready for use.
Having loaded Firefox I thought I should do something with it so clicked
on 'Latest News' in the button bar. A long selection was offered, so I
chose an interesting looking item, which came up fairly quickly. I read
to the bottom of the page and tried to drag the scroll bar to read the
next bit. The top of the page stayed put and odd bits of the bottom
scrolled! I tried the little arrow at the top of the scroll bar and just
a narrow strip at the top scrolled. Tried the bottom arrow and just a
narrow strip at the bottom scrolled. In the end the only way to read the
next bit of page was to guess how far to scroll, then click on the button
to re-draw the page. A bit hit and miss but it sort of worked!
