Thanks for your suggestions, Ian. I now have it linked to "USB2", I
think, but not through using your program.

O.K.

It dawned on me that I could remove a printer that I no longer use (a
direct connection to my HP2550 - I now get to it via a print server)
and the 1018 has come up as a USB 2. However, If I try to print
something, control is returned, but nothing prints out.

Click on the !Printers icon first. It may be sending the output to
'null:'.

Hmmmm.

When I first ran !Printers, it came up with 03F0:4117, if that means
anything to anyone.

It's the vendor/product details of the printer.

I loaded an LJ1100 (a guess - the nearest I could find to LJ1018),
selected that printer and it went yellow. Looking at the Connections,
it is set to USB, and in the greyed-out File window I can see:
#interfaces0;alternate0:USB2

The 03F0:4117 should appear on the right of the USB connection button.

But nothing is coming out of the printer, and nothing is left in the
queue.

Click the Printers icon before printing if !Printers has just load. You
can check where the print is going '*Show Printer$Path'.

Actually, the queue says "HP 1100 (HP 1100) on parallel (Active)" is
that what you'd expect, please?

No. This doesn't correspond with loading an LJ1100 and setting to USB as
written above.

Ian
