About 6 months ago Chris Evans (of cje fame) sold me a Canon iP4200
printer, which got me out of considerable difficulties over finding a
combatible printer for use with my Iyonix. So far so good.

It was fortunate that I use Impression Style and Draw a lot because I
soon found that if I wanted to use the printer with any other program
(ie Fireworks, DPingscan, Pluto) I had to first print something using
Impression Style or Draw, only then would other programs print.

Have you tried '*Show Printer$Path' before printing anything to see where
the print is heading? Alternatively click the !Printers icon once before
printing. If the latter works then using !PrintSpool would also fix it.

I have so far found no explanation of this.

The print may be directed to 'null:'.

No error message. The computer appears to go through exactly the same
routines as if it was printing (eg hourglass on and off) but the
printer makes no sounds - does nothing.

This would tally with the direction pointing to 'null:'.

Does anyone else use an iP4200 or an iP4000 printer with a Risc OS
computer? Have you encountered this problem? CAn you offer any
explanation other than my work-a-round?

See if the above helps.
