No John there is a difference between what you would have been doing in
that situation and what other people would do. Please do not confuse the
two.

There is a distinct possibility that he did not know. Personally I do
not know either.

But you wouldn't be stupid enough
A quick translation for those who need it:
But John Cartmell believes he wouldn't be stupid enough

to claim that as a reason for not reporting
the suggestion - except in pretence. Rob certainly wouldn't find it a
problem.
It seems to me to be a perfectly valid reason for not reporting, however
I think you will find that that was not the main reason stated.

Equally I could also say 'But you could not be stupid enough to use the
Select thumbnail filer without seeing the fundamental problems of the
implementation - except in pretence'*.

Why report something that is so utterly blindlingly obvious, to the
people who's daily work it is to 'update' the OS, and who apparently
know what is best for us?

Especially if you are not allowed to use their OS despite having
contributed to two years of its development, or are no longer a
customer of the company?

You are after all a customer of Microsoft (unless you are running an
illegal copy of Windows) but refuse to send comments about improvements
to them. I am not even a customer or ROL, but you expect me to send
suggestions to them?

In fact I did once, taking the trouble to email a well thought out
missive, and send a copy in the post. I suggested that if they produced
a set of modules that added Select functionality to RO5 then I would be
interested in becoming a customer once more. They did not bother even to
acknowledge receipt of my mail or letter.

Oh yes my opinion and suggestions are clearly welcome at ROL.

Regards
Stan

*particularly that is the the OS only allows for global settings of the
chosen Filer window view. Yes I do know that there is a workaround but
surely the OS should be able to handle such choices. Isn't that
blatantly obvious to all?
