Not sure about that. If Ray does indeed believe in a god, then he is
not an atheist, or at least not with respect to the set of all gods
that have been proposed. He believes in at least one of them. He
would, of course, be an atheist with respect to the greek gods, or
the norse pantheon etc.
Pardon! where in the above do I say that Ray is an Atheist, which
would be quite silly as I go on to say he believes in the Christian
God. (There is a space between the "a" and the "theist" in the above.)
You didn't say Ray was an atheist, and I didn't think you had. But you
did say "believes all other gods are false" which does imply atheism
with respect to "other gods". Just not all gods.
As I understand it, someone can not be an atheist if they believe in /any/
god.
For instance, believers in Creator God cannot be atheists just because
they don't believe in Thor :-)
