As was suggested, I copied the install stuff off the CD to
the HD and installed from there.
Likewise (because Delete power-on screwed my CMOS and drives)

It mostly went okay, and I'm now running RO 6.
Mine didn't but I have managed to remove all the new stuff and
revert to RO4.39 and the original Configuration (Status).

Obviously at a cold boot it starts up okay.
Lucky you :-)

Very Grumpy Dave
I think I'll wait for some feedback to this before having
another go, else there will be a Very Grumpy Brian as well.

A second attempt at installation today has succeeded and I am
posting this from RISC OS 6.06 :-)

The key was NOT to do a delete power on thus preserving access
to both my UNIpod IDEFS and the SCSI CD drive. Installation
went OK from the CD with none of the Apps etc accepted because
some are not in the standard places. These were all updated
manually once RISC OS 6.06 was running.

Re-start worked OK to RO 4.39 but when RISC OS 6.06 started I
got the same error as yesterday: "Error : NoSuchSWI1 : SWI &%0
not known (Error number &1E6)".

Inspection of the ROM contents showed that the 2 unplugged
modules' numbers (128 & 129), required to allow my CD drive to
work, now pointed to RemotePrinterManager and WindowManager.
These were Dormant and also all subsequent modules. Something
odd here, surely?

RMReinit-ing these 2 modules and a reboot allowed the full
process to complete. (I had originally disabled all the many
items in Boot -> Configure -> Look_at and -> Run).

Unfortunately I have not found a way yet to disable the
CDFSSoftATAPI module and all those damned EESOX modules (Why are
they back?), so I get an additional delay of about 30secs whilst
the OS tries all these drivers and eventually gets to the one it
needs CDFSSoftPower.

Much more work needed to get everything working again (BTW
Impression Publisher is OK, contrary to something up in this
thread) but I shall leave the machine working overnight until I
can continue work.

I see nothing is appearing in the Select list so I have
continued to add to this thread in the hope that it might help
someone else. I will copy the text to the list as I think some
important points appear.

A Reasonably Chuffed Brian.
