Re: NetSurf 1.0 released

I'll explain once more: I believed from reports that it had been seen
working (so just a few tweaks to release worthiness) and I in all
innocence expected it to be released that year;

Can you provide examples of those reports?

(I for one do not remember any such thing.)

I bought a Mac before it was released in order to get used to the Mac
OS in preparation (and, yes, there was some element of wanting the
power of the Mac that RISC OS can't provide). The length of time from
working demo to beta release, and the activation problem, do not
inspire confidence.

No promises had been made. Statements were made freely in my presence
that there were distinct problems with the demonstration. So confidence
at that stage was low.

At several points thereafter I sought to instill confidence in the
Author that his struggle would be worthwhile as I stated, in the company
of several others, I would definitely buy the released version.

The point I am making is that the number of Mac users at that time who
had familiarity with RISC OS was in all likelihood small. Therefore the
market was likely to be small. Therefore the commercial reward for
spending time on this program (VARPC) was likely to be low or negative.

Accordingly I am delighted that the project has got through to this
point and trust that the Beta testing will bring it to a successful
conclusion. The fact that Macs are now much more popular among RISC OS
users is very much good news for the financial outcome.

I don't say that I wasted my money. Far from it; the Mac is
exceedingly fast and powerful compared to my RPC.

What you have said is that you do ask simple questions but make rash
assumptions about the viability of projects. This does not inspire
confidence (to quote a phrase above) in your judgement.
