(No relation to 'four candles', I presume...)

32-bit number. Like icon handles only for windows.

By this, do you mean multiple panes? ie, NetSurf's browser window has
the toolbar and status bar panes in addition to the main render window.
This arrangement doesn't strike me an esoteric.
