It depends very much on who's reading it. Read properly, with inflection
and proper "drama" the NIV is much better and more immediate. It conveys
far more meaning to the listener than the poetry of the KJV and that's
what it's all aboyt really

beauty and comprehensibility vary, so do our linguistic ones. I still
believe that we should use the best and most poetic with which to
worship, even if it does require some effort on our part. I would
wholly agree that any modern version requires the injection of 'proper
drama' to give it meaning since the necessary drama is inherently
lacking in the language.
On a less important note, I'm afraid that this is all part of a
general dumbing down in which we see about 20% of candidates getting
First Class Honours degrees (in other words about the same number of
people as graduated with any class of degree 40 years ago), Latin A
levels obtained without the need to translate from English, and
English CGCSEs which include questions on Shakespeare capable of being
answered by those who have never opened the play!
