If they sounded anywhere near sincere, they might be a good thing.
First you call me dim; now you accuse me of insincerity. Is there
no end to your insults?
Did I mention that you smell?
I think that's BT's copper. Got a distinctly greenish tinge to it.
I actually thought you had been consumed by some sort of
benevolent spambot.
Better that, I would have thought, than succumbing to the
malevolent tendencies shewn lately in these newsgroups.
I know you're quite capable of making rational and considerate
posts and I really would hate to see you dragged in to the recent
spate of nastiness.
Thank you for your consideration, David! I would question `lately'
and `recent spate', however -- as dgs said not long ago, these groups
aren't any more unpleasant now than they were in the nineties. The
only real difference is that there are fewer on-topic posts amongst
the nastiness. So it goes (as the late Mr Vonnegut would say).
Everyone's worthy of consideration, Ben.
I think the difference now from the 90s is that the unpleasantness
still produced long arguments on fact, usually between two main
protagonists. Now, it all seems to be down to when JC utters a phrase
or two that the usual gang simply jump on him; and many of the gang's
comments really are simply wrong as well as usually very offensive.
I find it quite ironic that most of the accusations made of JC actually
apply more perfectly to his accusers.
