That really is an incredibly tedious way of doing things, you need to
substantially automate it, before it drives you mad. There are two
approaches, and you can use either or both as required.

The first is to fetch email using !AntiSpam instead of !Hermes (or
!PopStar).

The second approach is to use !SpamStamp to tag messages once
downloaded so Messenger Pro's filters can send them to a spam folder.

I did use SpamStamp and it certainly identified the rubbish, but only
after spending a considerable time in downloading it. Using a broadband
connection, or with low volumes of spam, maybe this doesn't matter, but
using a dial-up connection, it does.
