Why would that be then? All the new mac users I know are overjoyed not

But then it is cool to use a system that is fast and consistant, has

I'm saying the will like to be seen with the Apple hardware, but...
The hardware is nicely built.
Do you perhaps think that the users miss all the viruses and evenings
re-installing?
....definately not - but you have to have the appropriate software so
they will stick with Windows under emulation (or whatever you
choose to call it when running on Apple hardware), so the
It's known as virtual machines, the difference being that the
processor is not emulated. (Lots of emulates have virtual in the name,
confusingly) so it is more like a PC card on a Risc PC.
security advantage is lost straight away. I had a good long look
No it isn't. (Unless you use dual boot). The virtual machine is a
program as far as the main OS is concerned, it has its own virtual
drive. Malware on the virtual machine is highly unlikely to have any
effect on other VMs or the main system. The main system can be used to
access the virtual drives (just like on an RPC). It is probably also
possible to set up the networking so that the Mac acts as a firewall
(not certain about this, but conversations I've lead me to believe
this is a possibility).

was looking at - the authors have never tried to used it for real
from a non-accountants perspective.
Incidently, we now have 2 PC's in full-time use for about 3 months
and rather depressingly (from the ROS view point) we've had no
problems - nothing has been re-installed at all. The only problem
That is very lucky, but then having learned on RISC OS, you will have
an IT understanding much greater than a typical user, so are likely to
do more things correctly.
app is Real Player which often needs re-starting (2 or 3 times
a week), but then that's only for internet radio and doesn't
really count (the player on the RPC is much nicer, but slows
down invoice generation and printing quite badly).
I'm hoping VRPC appears for the Mac. If it turns out that I end up
being in the situation of only having a laptop (a possibility), it
will be a Mac.
I will not be running windows to run VRPC on. This uncertainty is
preventing me investing in RO software (just as the uncertainty of
select on an Iyonix has prevented me spending money on it).
I think the way forward for RISC OS is emulation (as suggested in
comments on drobe) and PDAS, but I think it should be done in such a
way that native machines are always still supported, because there is
likely to be an ongoing market for them.
It would be sensible for RO 3.1 emulators to be made available for
free, this could give a major boost to the market.
