The latest Kinoamp (with AC3 sound) is allowing me to watch DVD and
DVD from my hard disk (VOBs) with sound. Medium quality DVD plays
well, but with some sound breaks every few seconds (longer if you use
full screen or non multi tasking). I've tried it from a RAM disk, but
so fast is the hard disk on the Iyonix that it makes no difference.
Will Geminus make any difference?
Display on the Iyonix can be accelerated in two different ways:
- the IntelDMA module
- OS sprite display acceleration (Geminus on the Iyonix).
The first one is used if you load Thomas Milius' module in memory
before starting KinoAmp, but works only for 100% scale.
The second requires that you set the KinoAmp option 'Scaler'
to 'System' (+ the 'Force Scaler usage' if you want to use it
in full screen modes too) so that KinoAmp uses the standard
OS_SpriteOp which can then benefit from whatever sprite
plotting acceleration is provided by the system, such as
Geminus on the Iyonix.
According to Thomas (I don't have an Iyonix) so far the IntelDMA
provides the best acceleration.
Another way of increasing the frame rate is to select the 'monochrome'
option and switch to a 256-greyscale mode.
