For showing your friend in the hospice the photos taken with your Canon
350D, provided he has access to a TV, you could put them on a compact
flash card in your 350D and connect it via the supplied video lead to the
the TV (if it doesn't have the yellow video in socket you could get a
video to scart adaptor) it would save carrying all the other equipment.
(see page 114 in the 350D booklet)
I've spent an enjoyable hour looking at your website - excellent - and it
displays perfectly in NetSurf. I notice that you use a 75-300mm lens as I
do with a 350D. I couldn't justify the expense of a 500mm lens or the
extra weight, so investigated the converters that are available. The Canon
ones only work with the very expensive L series lenses and the sub
100pounds ones from Jessops etc have a noticeable effect on the quality.
However I have now tried the Kenko 1.4x teleplus pro 300DG converter which
is small and light and seems to have very little effect on the quality of
the images. So the 300mm becomes a 420mm lens which with the different
sensor size on a digital camera gives the equivalent effect on a 35mm of a
670mm lens. The camera's metering is spot on although it reports a 300mm
focal length and, despite Canon's warning, auto focus still works. I did
consider the 2x converter but the loss of 2 stops in the light was too
much.
