Dunno, but it's not me!
I can't offer a cure suggestion I'm afraid but at least my comment
might eliminate or point somewhere. See below.

I found that it was already ticked on my copy.

Not here. Clicking on the X close icon just did exactly that - it
went away.
Just to check, next I clicked on RS on the icon bar and it immediately
opened a blank document window.
I'm running a Kinetic RiscPC, RISCOS 4.03 rather than an Iyonix,
whatever that may convey.
