Haven't you worked out this is deliberate? John is using the first string on
his 'debating' bow, and you want have to look too far to find the other two
either,
1) Make an authoritative post on a technical subject of which you have little
or no understanding. Wait for corrections and engage as many newsgroup
regulars as possible in a protracted argument, shifting the goal posts
every time you have been cornered. Proceed until no one remembers what the
original issue was.
2) Engage in a protracted argument, then go back and find the earlier
statements of another poster, blatantly misrepresent them as the opposite
of the intended meaning, then use this to justify your argument. Ignore
any objections and clarifications by the poster. For extra bravado
continue to make your allegations in messages where the original post is
quoted at the top for everyone to see.
3) Engage in a protracted argument in a public forum or newsgroup, and if
the argument is going against you proceed to harass other contributors
by private email, insisting you have facts "straight from the horses
mouth" which proves your point beyond doubt, and there is no possible way
you can continue to disagree.
Of course I wholeheartedly apologise if I've missed any other strategies,
which may be in use. Perhaps someone could let post the details of what they
are, or alternatively get a primary school child to suggest some more
effective one.
