Wasn't there a group of types reserved for "internal use", or more
accurately users who needed a file type but wanted to keep in private.
I registered (with Acorn) about half a dozen file types in about 1994
or so for well known automotive manufacturer, most of which were based
on the application names and were certainly between &100 and &FFF.
