I think the argument also rests neatly along the usual `if RISC OS can't

Hackcherlly my reason is nothing to do with RISC OS vs WIndows vs MacOS.
It's everything to do with the fact that when I step away from the computer
(at work or at home) I prefer to hear nothing much.
For most of the summer that fits quite well with living next door to a
school and close to a wood so that the noisiest things around tend to be
jays, woodpeckers, collared doves, and the rest of the twitter-tweet
brigade.
Now as I say, if the mp3 players keep people happy and they aren't ruining
my peace then I'm happy.
IF I ever want to rip a CD to an mp3 then one of the assorted PC chassis
round here can be built into something to cover the function. Although
ripping the content of the line of vinyl stuff I haven't played in a few
years might be more useful.
My point is that just because other people are fixated on something other
than "quiet" (it's often anything but quiet) doesn't mean everyone has to
be.
