Just as a bit of a follow-up to a thread I started about the Parcelforce
web site.....

One of the site devlopers rang today. Not only does their site use
unnecessary anounts of Javascript, but the collection booking system
is specifically Windows with IE (though it will work with Firefox
apprenty). So you can't even use a Mac!

There are no plans to change this situation, though they "may support
Mac's" at "some point in the future"..... No Linux/Unix even!
And you are tied into using Mickysoft Office to boot!

It must be nice to be able to ignore 10% of your potential customers!

And they pay their "experts" for this? What a c**p company.

Looking at their site I'd agree that it's really quite a horrible mess.
However, you are somewhat confused about many things, and it may help your
cause if you understand them.
Firstly, the site developers won't be writing for any particular operating
system -- they'll be developing for a specific /browser/. As most of the
world uses MSIE then this will be what is top of their list.
Secondly, Firefox is cross platform. If it works in FF for Windows then it
should work in FF for mac and also the Linux versions. When they talk about
supporting macs then I assume they are talking about supporting the Safari
browser which will be low priority given the very low usage %age.
Thirdly, I couldn't see how they tie you into Microsoft Office which is a
collection of programs including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access. I can
only guess that it provides files in one of these formats at some point
which OpenOffice.org should happily open.
Finally, please update your website so it conforms to the relevant
standards. Whenever I see a rant like yours I look at any web site in the
signature to see if the author cares as much about that site as the one they
are launching a crusade against. The one in your signature[1] led me to the
conclusion that you are happier shouting about the correct ways of doing
things than actually learning what they are.
