Re: DNS 8 and digital files

How accurate is the software at translating digital files? I saw
a review somewhere that said accuracy was only about 20 percent.

Accuracy of dictation directly into the computer is always more
accurate than transcribing dictation from a digital recorder. We
generally expect and receive 98-99% accuracy with dictation into the
computer with a good sound card and a good microphone. Accuracy into
the best hand-held digital recorders is generally 1-2% less. This is
due to:
1. You do not benefit from the feedback of seeing the words going on
screen, and thus you tend to slur your words together even in the best
of times.
2. The digital recording is slightly compressed and there is some
clipping of the beginning and ending of phrases.

People who just try transcription into Dragon NaturallySpeaking without
having experience dictating directly to the computer have much lower
accuracy. This is because dictation with speech recognition is much
different than conversational dictation. I highly suggest you go to our

Specifically, look at the first two bullets. The first bullet has three
sound files on how to sound and how not to sound. The second bullet has
a short article which will help you understand how to be successful at
speech recognition quickly.
